Seeking Justice for Freedom Fighter Anil Chandra Tanchangya: A Decade of Silence and Inertia

Over twelve years have passed since the disappearance of esteemed freedom fighter and community leader, Anil Chandra Tanchangya. His contributions to Bangladesh, both during the Liberation War of 1971 and in the subsequent years, remain unparalleled within the Tanchangya society and the broader national landscape. Serving as the Vice President of the Rangamati District Awami League, President of the Rangamati District Farmers League, and thrice-elected Chairman of the Wagga Union Parishad, Anil’s commitment to his nation and community was unwavering.

On January 10, 2012, Anil was abducted by unknown assailants from the Devatchari area while en route to attend a District Law and Order Committee meeting in Rangamati city. Since that fateful day, his whereabouts remain unknown, leading his family and community to believe that he was murdered and his body clandestinely disposed of.

There are allegations suggesting that Anil’s abduction was a calculated move by certain party leaders to consolidate their positions. Despite these serious accusations, the quest for justice has been met with inertia. Human chains and public outcries have yielded little progress, and the perpetrators remain at large.

The nation stands indebted to its freedom fighters, and the prolonged silence surrounding Anil’s case is a stark deviation from the respect and justice they rightfully deserve. It is a poignant reminder that justice delayed is justice denied.

In light of these circumstances, a fervent appeal is made to the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, and all relevant authorities to reignite the investigation into Anil Chandra Tanchangya’s disappearance. Let this not be a chapter of forgotten valour but a testament to the nation’s commitment to uphold the rights and dignity of those who sacrificed for its freedom. Only through diligent efforts and unwavering resolve can justice be served, and the legacy of heroes like Anil Chandra Tanchangya be rightfully honoured.
