Vaseikai, Lawngtlai, Mizoram, April 23, 2026 – The 2nd Bishu Mela 2026 commenced on 10 April in Vaseikai, drawing crowds to honour the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and communal bonds of the Tongchangya community. Organised by the 2nd Bishu Mela Organising Committee from April 6 to 14, the nine-day festival features a vibrant lineup of traditional dances, songs, ramp walks, dramas, folktales, non-traditional performances, the exciting Ghila Khala competition, and an exhibition of handmade handicrafts
The event, led by Chairman Shanti Lal Tongchangya, Vice Chairman Awshini Tongchangya, Secretary Nidoy Tongchangya, and other key members, including Treasurer Shanta Tongchangya, Cultural Secretary Kiron Kumar Tongchangya, and Organising Secretary Sumit Kanti Tongchangya, invites participants from neighbouring villages to join in the festivities. Exhibition guidelines emphasise traditional attire for all, with opportunities to showcase and sell handmade crafts.
Special guests have elevated the occasion. The opening Ghila Khala ceremony on April 6 featured Chief Guest Pu Premo Kanti Tongchangya, MDC and Deputy Chief Whip of LADC, as Adviser to the VC Staff. Cultural events on April 13 was graced by Chief Guest Pu C. Ngunlianchunga, MLA of Mizoram, with Pu Premo Kanti Tongchangya as Guest of Honour. The finale on April 14 brought Chief Guest Pu C. Lalsawmzuala, Chief Executive Member of LADC, and Guest of Honour Pu Donny Lalruatsanga, Deputy Commissioner of Lawngtlai.
Active social workers like Ex-YLA President Arjun Tongchangya and Uttyo Tongchangya have rallied community support, organising initiatives to encourage participation in the upcoming cultural events and fostering collaboration among local groups.
Key deadlines were met efficiently: Cultural Event submissions closed today 10 April, with auditions scheduled for April 11-12 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Community Hall (contact Cultural Secretary Kiron Kumar Tongchangya). Ghila Khala teams registered by April 4, with tie draws on April 5 near the YLA office, and games coordinated by Ponso Kanti Tongchangya and Assistant Bhagyo Moni Tongchangya.
